The Association of Cities of Vietnam (ACVN) is a voluntary social organization of Vietnamese cities. The Association was founded in 1992 as an organization of provincial cities by the five cities of Viet Tri, Nam Dinh, Vinh, Hue and Da Nang. On 17th of July 2000, it was then officially named Association of Cities of Vietnam (ACVN) with the decision of the Prime Minister: No 45/2000/QD-BTCCBCP. Operating both as a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) and as a Social Professional Organization, the Association is the only organization of local governments in Vietnam and with a total number of 96 members (including cities from rank IV to rank special cities and I).

With response to the Project plan, in the end of March and beginning of April 2012, the Coaches of the Project: “Partnership for Democratic Local Governance in South-East Asia” (DELGOSEA) held the monitoring in 3 Pilot cities: Vinh, Da nang, Tra Vinh.The monitoring’s objective are:- To review the three-month plan: what have already done and what is delayed and measures to keep in progress; - Develop the next three months; collect the sources of information; - Preparation for the city presentation in April national workshop

Community Architect workshop and training course |

On March 19th 2012, community architect group of Associasion of Cities of Vietnam (ACVN) coordinated with Ho Chi Minh University of Architecture in hosting Community Architect workshop to introduce widely activities of not only Vietnam community architects but also all over Asia. Participated in the workshop were: Mrs. Vu Thi Vinh – delegate of National coordination office of Community Development Funds – ACVN, Mr Chawanad – delegate of Asia community architect network (CAN) – Asia Coalition for Housing Rights (ACHR) and vice headmaster of Ho Chi Minh University of Architecture.[continue reading]

Between the 19th and 24th February 2012, two representatives from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities including Mr.Jacques Carrier, MPED Director and Ms.Carilynn Siemens – Asia Manager MPED, travelled to Vietnam on their program management and planning mission to work with the ACVN under the umbrella of the MPED (Municipal Partners for Economic Development between the FCM and ACVN, supported by the CIDA) at the ACVN Office in Hanoi.

YP action: Programme: “ Meeting to share experience for support poor communities” on 18th Dec 2011 |
|
A talk on sharing experience to support and develop poor communities. In the afternoon Sunday, 18th Dec 2011, from 2h30 to 6h, at Cafe' EMO (No.116 A6, Tran Huy Lieu str, Hanoi) there was an interesting talk among YPs, CTC (challenge to change -NGO), MDC (), architect group from 1+1>2 Co., and other young people on sharing experience, collaborating mutually for a sustainably developing communities. Number of attendees were 18 people. Each group introduced theirself, the working methods of their group, projects which was, have been being or will be done, questioning and discussing. Eventually, specific ideas for organizations and groups linking were come up with and suggested to them.

Between the 12th and 16th December 2011, two representatives from the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (Canada) including Councillor Heath Slee, President; Ms.Brenda Gibson, General Manager of Victoria Office travelled to Vietnam on their mission of project definition for the ACVN Capacity Building Project under the umbrella of the MPED (Municipal Partners for Economic Development between the FCM and ACVN, supported by the CIDA) at the ACVN Office in Hanoi.

Assessment field trip for ACCA by the Bill Gates Fund delegation |

From December 19th to 21st 2011, the Bill gates Fund delegation will visit Viet Tri and Tra Vinh. This is very important field trip because it assesses not only ACCA result bult also result in the region. Basing on this field trip, the Fund will consider supporting finance in 3 years. This field trip include: Assoc Prof. Dr. Vu Thi Vinh, Vice general secretary of ACVN, Mr. Sternin Simon Louis, expert of the Bill Gates; Ms. Le Dieu Anh, Coordinator of ACCA program in Vietnam; Mr. Le Quang Thong, Secretary of CDF.
